Yesterday I went to visit my sister. I was helping her make the switch from Skype to GWConnect, and I noticed that the Eloquence synth for her Window-Eyes had strange undertones to it, like fuzzy, high-pitched, extra voices. After waiting a bit to make sure I wasn't crazy, I mentioned it to her. "Oh, it's been doing that for a while now," she said. So I did a little experiment. I switched from Eloquence to Dectalk Access 32, but the issue prevailed. I asked her if this happened when she was wearing headphones, and she said yes. I played around in the settings some more, but I told her I think it must be an issue with her soundcard, though I don't know enough as to why that might be or how to rectify it. She has 7.5.3 now but got 7.5 last summer when she started college. She has a Linovo laptop, though I don't know the particular model, and it runs Windows 7. I suppose I should have gone to the Device MAnager and checked on the type of soundcard she has, but I was super exhausted at the time. Do y'all have any light to shed on this matter?
Her sound card most likely has an effects. I don't know if this will be accessible for a screen reader, but if you can turn the effects off you'll solve the issue. Try going to audio devices in Windows 7.Simply type Audio devices in the search box on the start min. After you get to the sound card go to properties and under that if you use your control tab you might find the effect module. Turn it off.
These aren't great instructions, and if I could play with the machine I would know what I'm looking for when I get it, but you seem to be savvy, so go fishing.
Now with anything audio and not seeing be careful. You turn it off you can't see. Lol
Good luck.
Thanks, will try that. Do you know if Window-Eyes has a remote system like JAWS does, or is there a free, accessible remoting program I can try? I'm not with her anymore and think it best to either wait till the next time I see her or try to remote.
I had an issue with a toshiba and the speech sounded like it was in a hall. Effects was definitely the problem. Also, there was a check box for some type of advanced audio processing and once all that was turned off the hall effect went away.
Was the advanced audioprocessing checkbox in Window-Eyes or anotherdialog?
Update: Saw my sister today and tried disabling the enhancements on her soundcard. Worked immediately, and so far no problems! Thanks guys!
